Whether you're making Gauteng your new home or you're just swinging by, the cities and towns of this stunning province boast an array of attractions available to its residents and visitors.
Have a look at some of our favourite spots scattered around Gauteng:
Sun City & Pilanesberg National Park
If that isn't enough, right next door to the resort is the 550-square-kilometre Pilanesberg National Park, offering breathtaking game viewing and the opportunity to spot the Big Five: leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.
Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve
While we're on the topic of nature and wildlife, Gauteng's Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is a popular day-visit destination for its 43-kilometre proximity to the city of Johannesburg. Home to approximately 600 individual animals and showing off more than 30 species, it's easy to spot some of the park's Big Five, amongst other endangered species.
Alternatively, you can check out one of Gauteng's many game reserves: Krugersdorp Game Reserve, Mafikeng Game Reserve, Welgevonden Game Reserve, Dinokeng Game Reserve and many more.
Harties Aerial Cableway
Looking for some fun with a view? This activity will not leave you disappointed! Just 80 kilometres outside of Johannesburg you'll find the Harties Aerial cableway and get transported to a mountaintop platform and activity area, with magnificent panoramic views of the Magaliesberg mountains and Hartebeespoort Dam.
Originally constructed in 1973, the 1.2-kilometre-long cableway is one of one of residents' and tourists' favourite attractions!
Maropeng Visitor Centre: The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site
This award-winning, world-class exhibition focuses on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years, and is one of the richest concentrations of early human fossils in the world. Learn about the formation of the planet and the evolutionary process along this self-guided and interactive tour, allowing you to take your time to admire fossils estimated to be as old as 3.5 million years.
If you've got the time, don't forget to make a visit to their Sterkfontein Caves - 6 underground caverns where most of these fossils were discovered.
